Call to worship: Job 1:9 - 11“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

Text Box: Job 42: 1-8(First reading)
1Then Job replied to the LORD: 2 “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. 4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you,and you shall answer me.’ 5 My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” 7 After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.”

Text Box: Job 42: 9 – 17(Second Reading)
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the LORD told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before. 11 All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver[a] and a gold ring.12 The LORD blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. 13 And he also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. 15 Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.16 After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. 17 And so Job died, an old man and full of years.

Analysis of the life of Job

Ø  Text Box: Job 3:1- 4 1After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. 2 He said:3 “May the day of my birth perish, and the night that said, ‘A boy is conceived!’4 That day—may it turn to darkness;may God above not care about it; may no light shine on it

Twice God is giving a testimony about job Job1: 8 and Job 2: 3 he testify him as (he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity)

Ø  After his friends sat with him for seven days without saying a word Job curse the day he was born.

Ø  Text Box: Job 4:3 – 5 3Think how you have instructed many,
how you have strengthened feeble hands.4 your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees. 5 But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed.
His friends remind him of how many he has encouraged.

Text Box: Job35:4-9 4 Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job because they were older than he. 5 But when he saw that the three men had nothing more to say, his anger was aroused.6 So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said: “I am young in years, and you are old;
that is why I was fearful, not daring to tell you what I know. 7 I thought, ‘Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’8 But it is the spirit[b] in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.9 It is not only the old[c] who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.

Ø  One young man rebuke Job for not blaming God for His misfortune (also read this in Kikuyu)( in chapter 3 – 31 Job is talking with friends who are challenging him)

Text Box: Job10: 8 -12 8“Your hands shaped me and made me.
Will you now turn and destroy me?
9 Remember that you molded me like clay.
Will you now turn me to dust again?
10 Did you not pour me out like milk
    and curdle me like cheese,
11 clothe me with skin and flesh
and knit me together with bones and sinews?
12 You gave me life and showed me kindness,
and in your providence watched over my spirit.
13 “But this is what you concealed in your heart,
and I know that this was in your mind:

Ø  Due to pain that job went through he was challenging and asking God tough questions

Ø  Text Box: Job38:
4“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—
12“Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,
13 that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it?

God speak in Chapter 38 – 41 and He is asking job very tough questions

Text Box: Job4:7-9 7 “Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished?
Where were the upright ever destroyed?
8 As I have observed, those who plow evil
and those who sow trouble reap it.
9 At the breath of God they perish;
at the blast of his anger they are no more.
